Our Story
You probably already know the story of our engagement...but incase you don't OR want to hear it again...
John popped the question in the foyer of the home we share together. Although I was anticipating this moment to happen soon, it was a complete surprise on Saturday, March 28, 2009. After the shock wore off, I said "Yes!"
John arranged for a car to take us into Philadelphia for dinner at my favorite restaurant...not to mention the same restaurant we had visited on our first date: Buddakan!
After dinner, I was climbing into the car when John requested one more picture to remember this exciting evening. As I turned around, the ring slipped off my finger and plunged to the ground. Because I had waited more than 6 years to wear this georgous piece of jewelery, I panicked and hollered "the ring fell off!"
We scoured the ground and realized I had been standing over a storm drain. John began digging into the drain access hoping that if the ring just rolled in a ways, he would find it easily. He dug and dug into the Philadelphia sludge that calls the storm drain home...20 minutes later, still nothing. He thought I may have more luck since my arms are smaller...so I too began to dig. Again, nothing!
I pleaded to the valet, who dashed off and returned with a flashlight and screwdriver. The valet, our driver, and John all kneeled around the manhole cover located about 12 inches from the drain access. As a team, the 3 of them somehow managed to removed the cover. John looked in first and could only see the 6 foot drop to the stagnant dirty water below...did we mention that the ring was not insured yet?!
Then as angels sing from the heavens above...our driver announced, "there it is!" Before I knew what happened, he was handing it back to me...much dirtier than it was 30 minutes earlier, but just as beautiful!
I hugged (and tipped) everyone that had helped! But now John and I were dirtied from the elbows down and could not ride home as such. With our heads down, and our arms as covered as much as possible, we reentered the restaurant we had just dined in, in order to "wash up" in the bathroom!! The looks we got as we darted through to the bathrooms were classic.
We made it home late that night...and spent hours reflecting on what could have ended up very differently. Now that time has passed and that panicked feeling has subsided (and the ring actually fits!) we laugh hysterically at our engagement story!! It's certainly one to tell for years!!
Our Wedding
Our wedding will take place at Dreams Resort in Tulum, Mexico, on April 2, 2010 at 5:00 in the evening. Our beach formal ceremony will be followed by a cocktail hour and reception.
